Nude Photo Shoot for Global Warming

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -- Wanted: volunteers willing to take their clothes off and have their picture taken on a freezing cold Alpine glacier.

The appeal by New York artist Spencer Tunick, famous for taking pictures of thousands of naked people in public settings worldwide, is intended for a photo shoot to highlight the effects of climate change on Switzerland's shrinking glaciers, environmental group Greenpeace said on its Web site Wednesday.

Greenpeace said if global warming continues at its current pace, most Swiss glaciers will disappear by 2080.

The photo shoot, which follows Tunick's previous shoots in London, Mexico City and Amsterdam, will take place in August at an undisclosed location in Switzerland.

Prospective candidates from further afield will have to start making travel arrangements now. "We aim to make this a climate friendly event, so please come by public transport and don't fly," Greenpeace said.

Let me get this straight. In an attempt to bring global warming awareness to a higher level, a New York artist is going to Switzerland where he plans to shoot several people nude on a glacier? Personally, I find this to be a horrible idea. The conservatives are already trying to dismiss global warming as liberal nonsense, and I imagine they'll have a field day with this. "America, look at these godless, immoral, far-left loonies taking nude photos together like hippies."
Global warming is a very serious issue, one that is supported by scientists, politicians, and people worldwide. There are facts. The Greens and all of the other organizations that are trying to spread awareness need to do so with the facts. Tell people straight up why it's a problem, how it happens, and possible solutions. That's what we need in order to convince the people who are weary of global warming. What we do not need is naked photo sessions on glaciers. That's not doing anything but turning away people who are on the fence about climate change, and giving fuel to those in denial to add to their fire.

I know these people have good intentions, but the fact is this will do nothing but hurt the cause.

Lack of protests?

Why is it that when I turn on the television I'm not seeing people having mass protests and rallies? With all that is wrong in the world today? People aren't completely oblivious, as it shows through approval rates that people are not happy. If they're not happy, why aren't they out in the street demanding change?

I find myself pondering that question quite regularly. I wonder whether it's because the people are scared of their government and law enforcement. I wonder whether it's just because people don't care enough and are too busy watching TV. Other reasons often leap in and out of my mind. But, atleast in the broad sense of things, the reason why isn't too important in this case. What is important is that people start changing their ways and standing up for what they believe in. Talking on the radio, talking on the tv, even posting a blog, these are progressive things. However, without walking in unity and telling the government that we mean buisness, no change is likely to happen.

I look back over the decades, all over the world, and I see mass protests of angry people demanding change. And, although not always immediately, the changes they wanted usually occured. So why is it, that in this day in age, when I think it's fair to say some things are worse than ever, people are not protesting in large numbers regularly? Yes, rallies go on across this country every once in a while. But people need to stand up united in a mass and demand change. If that means causing some destruction, so be it. America wants out of Iraq, we want change in many other areas too, but we aren't demanding it.

"If people would demand peace, instead of another TV, then there'd be peace." - John Lennon

We Americans elect people to represent us and our wants. When the majority of America wants something, but are denied by elected officials, something is wrong. American politicians wants us out of Iraq, the international community wants us out of Iraq, but most importantly, the American people want us out of Iraq. But we're still over there. So why is it that people aren't standing united in the streets demanding change?

I want to turn on the news and see the government scrambling to meet the desires of the people. No longer should we fear the government, the government should fear us, the people.

Initial Post

Well, hey there! Welcome to my blog, Crucial Views of an Unstable Man. This is my first effort at blogging, so don't be too harsh.

In this blog, I will discuss my thoughts and views on a wide variety of content. I think it's fair to say most of my blogs will revolve around current events and serious news in the world today. However, that's not to say that I won't venture into other territories such as music, tv&movies, gaming, and my daily life.

So, I hope you will enjoy my blog. Agree or disagree, I'd love to hear feedback from everyone. Thanks.
